Telecentres (also known as Multipurpose Community Centres, Infoshops, Telecottages, Community Access Centres and others) have emerged in the last ten years as the primary means for providing public access to the range of telecommunications services particularly the Internet.

Shady Kanfi and Frank Tulus describe it as...

"A location which facilitates and encourages the provision of a wide variety of public and private information-based goods and services, and which supports local economic or social development. Such services might include basic communication such as voice, fax, e-mail, Internet access, etc.; public and quasi-public sector services such as telemedicine, distance education, municipal governance services, etc.; and private sector services like news distribution, telecommuting services, training, access to information on markets, crops and weather conditions, and more."

Telecentre in our place was initiated as community hub for linking the range of opportunities presented by Information and Communications Technologies (ICT's) with economic and social development efforts at the local level.
